Character AI is a chatbot based on an artificial neural network language model which enables users to engage in human-like conversations with their favourite characters or generate and share a new character.
With Character AI, you can start a conversation with either your favourite character or create a completely new one with specific personality traits that you can share with others.
The beta version free of charge was launched in September 2022 for the public and was accessible only via the website.
With the release of its iOS and Android app in May 2023, Character AI also added an opt-in paid subscription service of Character AI Plus (c.ai+).
When you message any character in Character AI, you get a human-like response that may get you thinking if you are talking to real people.

Can You Open DM, Inbox Or Private Message In Character AI?
Character AI is a chatbot made to talk like an actual human so you may often get confused when they tell you to check DM, Inbox or Private Message but there is no such feature available on Character AI yet.
It feels very real when a Character tells you that they have sent DM or Private message and you should check it.
If you ask “Where is the DM?” they may tell you to look at your profile page or even tell you a specific location like “Oh it’s right there in the top right corner”.
But even after looking everywhere on the webpage, you will not find any DM, Inbox or Private Messages.
You need to be mindful that the conversation is merely generated by AI and it can not send any link or documents to you via DM, Inbox or Private Messages.
Remember that you are talking with a fictional character that is not a real person and everything they say is a made-up response generated by AI.
It happens because the chatbots in Character AI are made to mimic the way humans respond and it feels realistic but everything they say is made-up so it is not possible to check DM or Inbox.
As with any AI-based application, the important thing to remember is that you are not engaging with a human. Character AI is still in its beta version and going through significant development as it receives feedback from the users.
