Why is Janitor AI Chat Not Working?

1. API on Janitor AI Is Not Yet Set Up

If you have not set up an API on Janitor AI yet, or if you have removed the API, it will not allow you to start chats with characters.

This is because you need an API to run Janitor AI to chat with Characters in Janitor AI.

2. Character Has Been Deleted or Made Private on Janitor AI

If the character was deleted or made private by the creator, you will not be able to chat with them any further.

This is because chatbots that are available on the platform are all set to public, which means that anybody can use it.

However, if the creator changes their mind, they can change the chatbot’s settings in the Character Edit page and make it private, then it will no longer be available for public use.

As such, your chat with the character will not work.

3. Server Issues with Janitor AI

Due to a recent increase in users on Janitor AI, there might be too many active users on the server at the moment, which it is unable to handle.

Alternatively, the developers of Janitor AI might be carrying out maintenance in the server to patch any errors and bugs that have been reported.

How to Fix Janitor AI Chat Not Working?

1. Set Up API on Janitor AI

You will need an API key to run Janitor AI.

Janitor AI currently supports API by OpenAI and Kobold AI.

You will first need an API key, which you can get from OpenAI.

  1. Visit www.platform.openai.com.
  2. Log into your OpenAI account.
  3. Click on your Profile at the top right corner of the screen.
  4. Click on View API keys.
  5. Generate your API key.
  6. Copy the API key.
  7. Start a Chat with a character of your choice.
  8. Click on the API not ready! Click to setup prompt in the top right corner of the screen.
  9. Enter your OpenAI Key into the given field.
  10. Click on Check API Key.
  11. Once validated, you can proceed.
  12. Click on Save Settings.

You can now continue your chat with the character!

2. Open Your Chat Again on Janitor AI

The error might just be a temporary bug or glitch, so you can try to open the chat again.

To do so, follow the steps as given:

  1. Go to the Janitor AI Home page.
  2. Click on your Profile at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. This will open the Menu.
  4. Click on My Chats.
  5. This will take you to the My Chats page, where you can see all the open chats you have.
  6. Select the Chat you want to open again.
  7. Click on Continue at the bottom left corner of the Chat card.

This will open the chat again and you will be able to continue your conversation as normal.

3. Check If the Character on Janitor AI Has Been Deleted or Made Private

If the chat is still not working, it might be because the character has been deleted by the creator.

To check this, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Janitor AI Home screen.
  2. Browse through the site or search for your character in the Search bar.
  3. Click on the Character.
  4. This will take you to the Character Page.
  5. Click on Chat with (character name).

If at any point you are unable to access the chat or the character, and are shown a “Can not find this character. It might be deleted or set to private” instead, it means the character is not available for chat anymore.

4. Out of Free Tokens on Janitor AI

If you are using an OpenAI API key, you will only be allowed a set number of free tokens to use for Janitor AI.

Once you have run out of these free tokens, you will have to pay OpenAI to continue using its API and tokens.

Once you have paid OpenAI, you will be able to continue your chat.

5. Check for Updates About Janitor AI

If the character is available and you are able to open your chat but not continue the conversation and there is no issue with your API, it might just be that the server is closed for maintenance.

You can always check Janitor AI’s Reddit forum or Discord server to see when they are carrying out maintenance to patch errors and fix issues on the website.

If they are, then you will just have to wait and try again later.

Until then, keep up with their updates on their communication channels. 

6. Check Your Internet Connection

A ping rate of 100 ms or lower is needed to use Janitor AI.

The lower the ping, the better the experience.

To check your internet speed, follow these steps:

  1. Go to speedtest.net.
  2. Click on the “GO” button on your screen.
  3. Wait for the site to give you a report.
  4. Your ping rate will be shown next to the yellow arrows.

If your network connection is not fast enough, you can either reset your router or switch to a different connection, like mobile data or hotspot.

Follow the steps below to reset your router.

  1. Locate the reset button on your router.
  2. Long press the button for a few seconds.
  3. Wait for your router to turn on again.
  4. Reconnect to your network.

This will restore a faster speed to your internet connection and you will be able to use the internet smoothly again.

7. Reach Out to the Janitor AI Team

If none of the previous fixes have helped resolve your issue, it is best to inform the Janitor AI team about the problem.

You can reach out to them via Reddit or Discord.

Once the Janitor AI team is notified of the issue, they will work to patch the problem or might connect with you to provide assistance.
